Interesting article. Just a quick comment. One of the reasons that some small business owners 'don't know anything about it' is because many are part of the generation before computers at school and being 'online' all the time [which is pretty much a requisite of social media] is not always something that they embrace. Whereas, digital natives and most modern children grow up with 'online' and the latest technology and the opposite applies. To them, social media is just part of their lifestyle and I am not sure that over-marketing is part of the equation. However, I have to admit that I am not a marketing person!

Thanks Clive, I agree most small business owners come into the category of not having grown up with digital, but then neither did a lot of us. Over-marketing is possibly another thread, to do with me getting frustrated that marketing hasn't moved on!
